2 teenagers arrested for allegedly breaking into Tampines coffee shop, stealing $400 cash

Singapore is dubbed as the world’s most expensive city. With the high costs of living, two teenagers resorted to breaking into a coffee shop in Tampines, only to get arrested.

Last Saturday (April 7), the police received a report at about 11 am that a coffee shop in Tampines Street 11 had been broken into and $400 cash was missing.

Officers from the Bedok Police Division conducted extensive ground inquiries and managed to establish the teenagers’ identity with the help of police cameras.

The suspects, a 16 and 17-year-old, were arrested in Simei Avenue and Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 respectively on Monday.

If found guilty of housebreaking and theft by night, they may face a jail term of up to 14 years and a fine.

Some people call it bravery, while some others call it stupidity. The reason for their act is still unknown, but we suspect that it may be due to their accumulated stress from school or a SES inferiority complex towards their peers.
