3 pedestrians killed after lorry hits them near Yio Chu Kang MRT station

A 25-year-old lorry driver claimed the lives of three pedestrians near Yio Chu Kang MRT station on Monday morning (April 23) due to his negligent driving and has been arrested for causing death by negligent act.

After the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to an accident involving a lorry, bus and three pedestrians near Yio Chu Kang MRT Station at about 9.38 am, the response team extricated two pedestrians from underneath the lorry using a rescue lifting airbag.

All 3 pedestrians were pronounced dead at the scene.

The male lorry driver was then conveyed to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) in a conscious state, although having suffered heavy injuries.

An SBS bus was waiting at the traffic light when the lorry hit the three pedestrians before crashing into the double-decker bus, severely shattering its bottom-front windscreen and damaging the lower front of the bus.
