America has always been hailed as the ‘land of opportunities’ and her schools have also been lauded as being one of the best in the world. However the multiple cases of school shootings in recent have struck fear and doubt in many.
A shooting occurred once again, this time at a Los Angeles middle school, in the morning (9 a.m.) of Feb 1 Thursday. 5 people were left injured, including two with severe injuries. Police have arrested a 12 year-old girl for questioning.
A 15 year-old boy was shot in the head, while a girl was shot in the wrist. 3 others suffered graze wounds.
On site footage show a young girl being led away by police and placed into a patrol car. Meanwhile, the student body and teachers are led outside for questioning.
While local authorities has not released additional information on the cause of the shooting, it has been alleged that the perpetrator is a 12 year-old girl. Said mayor Eric Garcetti:
It is unclear if the shooting was intentional or accidental
This no doubt incites further debate on the pressing issue of gun control, and the safety of public schools.
The Silver Lining
Fortunately, the boy was stabilized by doctors, as the bullet has narrowly missed vital brain structures. He remain in intensive care.
Hopefully this incident draws much needed attention to addressing the severity of America’s gun epidemic.
