In Singapore, Hari Raya is synonymous with bazaars. However, this year it would not be the case.
The iconic bazaar where you be feasting non-stop, will unfortunately be cancelled this year.
No prizes for guessing why its cancelled. Yes, it’s due to Covid-19.
This move is in line with the Ministry of Health (MOH) advisory on 13th March to defer or cancel all non-essential events.
According to The Straits Time, the list of bazaars that will be cancelled includes the annual Hari Raya Bazaars organised at Wisma Geylang Serai as well as at Our Tampines Hub and in Woodlands.
While this cancellation may come as a disappointment for many, I do believe it is a necessary move.
Just the Geylang bazaar alone, attracted around 2 million people last year. I am sure should it have continued as planned, it would have led to a new cluster forming.
While the government is trying to implement measures to protect us from the virus, we should do our part to prevent the spread of the virus as well!
and…I guess, on the bright side we get to lose some weight?
