Are your kids applying for DSA to secondary or junior colleges? But, with all the social distancing measures in place, can DSA applications still go on as per normal? Can DSA interviews still go on?
Yes, DSA interviews will still continue and will not be “delayed unnecessarily”.
Interviews will be carried out through online platforms such as video conferencing.
However, physical trials may be a challenge to this time round. But performance tasks like performing a musical instruments can still be carried out through online platforms.
Evaluation of team sports may be a challenge this time round, so students’ CCA records and past achievements will be used to assess students’ ability.
What if my child does not have resources for interviews through online platforms?
No worry! MOE assures students that they will be given equal opportunity in DSA interviews. To ensure that the selection is fair, MOE will work with schools to standardise the setting and equipments.
What if my child does not have any recognised certs but is skilled?
With certification and awards being of more importance this year, parents may worry if their child is put at a disadvantage if they have little or no prior training or formal certification. However, MOE has worked with DSA schools to also consider various qualities and attributes of a candidate.
Regardless of the candidates’ certification and experience, if schools see potential in the student, they will be shortlisted.
Hopefully this will reassure parents that even those from less advantaged backgrounds, who may not have the resources to acquire formal training, will be given equal opportunity to shine during the DSA interviews.
When is the application for DSA?
For secondary school DSA application, the online portal is open from 12 May to 5 June.
Applicants need to fill in one online form to apply to multiple schools and talent areas, and can indicate up to three choices. A parent’s SingPass login will be needed for application through the online portal.
