A huge vegetation fire the size of four football fields occurred in Jurong Island yesterday (13 Feb) at around 2.40pm.
In a video taken by eyewitnesses at the scene, raging flames were sprouting from the ground, and the area was shrouded with thick smoke.
The time the video was taken was approximately 2-3pm, during daytime. It should be noted that it was the thick smoke that caused the apparent darkness in the area, as seen in the video.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force was alerted to the fire at around 2.40pm yesterday as well, likely by the person who shot the video.
The fire is understood to have covered an open field around Meranti Avenue.
The fire has since been extinguished by the SCDF, who are currently investigating the cause of the fires.
Jurong Island is an off-shore island housing Singapore’s petrochemical industries and factories.
