Rejoice, my Tampines friends, Century Square mall- that has been closed for renovations since nine months ago, will reopen on June 6.
Its operator, AsiaMalls, said in a statement on Tuesday (May 15) that more than half of the tenants of the mall that underwent a $60 million facelift, will be new.
In addition, it will provide more dining options with 45 eateries, an increase from the initial 30. Some of these establishments include chicken rice chain Boon Tong Kee- their first outlet within a shopping mall, Chinese hotpot restaurant Hai Di Lao and a fusion cafe concept by Seoul Garden called Two Hana.
Among the newcomers, making a comeback is home-grown fashion label M)phosis, which had shut all of its stores in Singapore in 2015 due to cash flow issues. It had once been considered one of Singapore’s most successful local fashion brands, with more than 30 outlets in 11 countries at its prime, but its sudden closure after operating for more than 20 years shocked many in the industry.
Building towards the idea of a lifestyle-oriented mall, it will newly feature a Filmgarde-operated cinema, 24-hour gym Gymmboxx and enhanced amenities such as a new roof deck, bicycle stations with shower facilities, upgraded and larger nursing rooms and mobile phone charging stations.
Furthermore, a level of the mall has also been dedicated to families and kids, with educational and enrichment centres.
“Shoppers of today are not just looking for a convenient stopover to swing by and pick up necessities… we’ve reinvented the mall by creating a lifestyle destination where shoppers would want to hangout with their friends and families while experiencing new brands and concepts,” said Mr Tan Kee Yong, managing director of AsiaMalls Management.
AsiaMalls, which have previously worked on the refurbishment of Tiong Bahru Plaza and White Sands, have seen a double-digit jump in foot traffic, and it expects the same results for Century Square as well, following its renovation.
