As of 17 February 2020, 10am, there are 75 confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Singapore. On 14 February 2020, there were 9 new confirmed cases. On 15 February 2020, there were 5 new confirmed cases. On 16 February, there were 3 new confirmed cases. This brings the total confirmed number of cases to 75. 2 of the 13 cases have no travel history to China or apparent link with previous cases.

The 59th confirmed patient is a 61-year old Singaporean man 

  • 7 Feb 2020: developed symptoms
  • 10 Feb 2020: sought treatment at Farrer Park Hospital’s emergency care clinic
  • 12 Feb 2020: admitted to the emergency department at Mount Elizabeth Hospital
  • 13 Feb 2020: transferred to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID), tested Coronavirus positive
  • 6 Feb 2020: tested Coronavirus positive
  • Lives at Wilkinson Road
  • Works at private hospital in Singapore but mostly stayed home since the onset of symptoms

The 60th confirmed patient is a 51-year old Singaporean woman

COVID-19 is NOT SARS, more SIMILAR to H1N1

  • Researchers at NCID have confirmed that the transmission mechanism is much more closer to H1N1 or influenza
  • The symptoms of COVID-19 are mild but it is more infectious and may spread at a faster rate which is more similar to H1N1 than SARS
  • The fatality rate of SARS globally during the 2002-2003 outbreak was 9.56 per cent, as compared to a 2.14 per cent fatality rate for the current COVID-19
  • According to figures from the World Health Organization (WHO), the SARS outbreak led to 774 deaths out of 8,098 cases, while COVID-19 has so far killed at least 1,380 people out of about 64,400 cases
