If you are a football fan, or more specifically, an Arsenal fan, you are in for a treat.
The 2018 International Champions Cup (ICC) has announced English Premier League (EPL) giants Arsenal as part of a 3 team tournament coming to Singapore. The dates for 2018 ICC, in addition, the identity of the other 2 clubs are still unknown. However, football fans will know that pre-season friendlies usually takes place around June and July.
Looking back, the 2017 ICC in Singapore was considered a success which saw close to 105,000 fans attending the games. The likes of Europeans giants, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Inter Milan proved to be exciting enough to entise football fans. We even got to see an amazing goal by Inter Milan’s Kondogbia.
The ICC agreement is part of a 4 year deal signed only in 2017 between Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and Catalyst Media Group (CMG). This means that after 2018’s ICC, Singaporean fans will still get to enjoy another 2 years of “live European football”.
Generally, Singaporeans should be excited as they could get to meet Arsenal’s newest recruitment, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. With Armenia and Gabon not participating in the Russia World Cup 2018, the ex-dortmund pair will likely feature.
According to Today‘s interview with Mr Tiong Jin Yan, president of the Arsenal Singapore Club, there is a rumour that the other 2 clubs are Atletico Madrid and Olympique Lyonnais.
