The two Singaporeans had been missing for over 60 hours after entering a restricted mountain trail at Gunung Pulai in Kulai, Johor.

The duo was identified as Mr Dominick Tan Chang Xiang and Ms Clarice Lum, both 27. Tan was said to be an experienced mountain climber who had hiked Gunung Pulai many times.

They had previously made a distress call that they were near a body of water and were lost, and that one of them was unable to walk due to an injury.

After the sighting, a boat was sent to pick them up.

About 50 people including police officers, park rangers, members of the Fire and Rescue Department from Malaysia, as well as volunteers from both Singapore and Malaysia climbing groups had been involved in search and rescue operations.

It was heartening that so many people participated in the rescue operation, and even more so that it came to a good conclusion.
