The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has announced that they will not be extending temporary housing support for Malaysians beyond 31 Mar. This was following news from Malaysian Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin that the Malaysia lockdown will be extended from 31 Mar to 14 Apr as infections have not decreased.

Currently, there are around 10,000 of Malaysian work permit holders, who usually travelled through the borders daily, housed temporarily by the Singaporean government. They have also helped to find shelter for Malaysian workers who slept rough after the lockdown.

They have also followed up with employers to ensure that the accommodation for the affected Malaysian workers were safe and appropriate.

Wait… Then, after that, they stay where arh?

MOM encourages employers to decide how they plan to accommodate their affected workers in Singapore for the longer term. With “uncertainty over border controls“, this move is for the sake of businesses’ long-term sustainability and business continuity.

Employers that need more sustainable housing options can go to the MOM website or contact MOM through their email.

Now is more important than ever to lend support to our Malaysian friends!!
