North Korea has issued a warning, saying that they will not “sit-idle” regarding the joint military drill that the US and South Korea planned to conduct after the Winter Olympics.
Adding on to the dialogue, the letter from Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho said that “the peace and security of the Korean peninsula were gravely threatened and the inter-Korean mistrust and confrontation reached the top, thus creating great difficulties and obstacles ahead of hard-won dialogues”
“We will make every effort to improve inter-Korean relations in future, too, but never sit idle with regard to sinister act of throwing a wet blanket over our efforts.”
The announcement of this join military exercise has lead to an increased in tension between the two Koreas, and nearly crushed the efforts made in the previous dialogue.
The resumption of talks between the North and South was credited to Trump, by the current President of South Korea, Moon Jae-in. He mentioned that the U.S deserves “big credit” for this happening.
However, the North Korea denied the statement and rebutted that “However, the U.S. authorities are misleading public opinion as if the inter-Korean dialogue is an outcome of their harshest sanctions, and pressure imposed upon our country.”
We will only really know the more of the juicy bits after the Winter Olympic ends, so till then, better to be fingers crossed on this entire ordeal.
