SCDF to sound ‘IMPORTANT MESSAGE’ Alarm Today!

It might be the eve of Chinese New Year, but for Singaporeans, 15 February is also a day of great historical significance.

Seventy-six years ago today, Singapore fell to the Japanese.

Singapore surrender
15 February 1942 was also the first day of Chinese New Year. But no Singaporeans celebrated that day.

Today, Total Defence Day serves to commemorate that day.

It’s a reminder that in the midst of our relatively peaceful lives, where our largest gripes are failing train services and rising taxes, that stability shouldn’t be taken for granted.

While the importance of this message has been diluted in recent years, the Singapore Civil Defence Force will continue with its annual signal alarm this year.

At 6.20pm today (15 Feb), the Public Warning System (PWS) sirens will be sounded islandwide for one-minute.

Concurrently, there is an addition to the siren this year: a signal will be sounded on all smartphones with the SGSecure mobile app.

Yup, that’s the app our enciks forced us to download in NS.
The app wasn’t too well received by users…

The SCDF has reminded the public not to be alarmed when the alarm does sound.

More information on the PWS can be found on SCDF’s website here.

Here’s wishing all our readers a Happy CNY!
