Heard of Virus Vanguard? Well, don’t be too alarmed if you don’t know because they made their debut just a day ago, but have been taken down already 🙁

Virus Vanguard made their debut with the aim of raising awareness and educating Singaporeans about COVID-19 measures.

However, less than a day after their appearance, Virus Vanguard was taken down not by any villain this time, but by their own people (aka the Govt who gave them the chance to make their debut)

Their disbandment is due to several backlashes from the community:

  • Superheroes advocating safe practices but aren’t wearing masks??
  • MAWA man is anti-Liverpool?!
  • Where are the frontline and essential workers who are the REAL HEROES?

This character — MAWA man — seems to be the centre of the Liverpool controversy. MAWA is an abbrieviation for ‘Must Always Walk Alone’.

Football fans were quick to realise the play on Liverpool Football Club’s slogan and song, “You’ll Never Walk Alone”

In response to this, the artist decided to face the issues head on and explained himself.

Our Frontline and Essential workers

During such trying times when everyone is trying their best to stop the spread of COVID-19, it can’t be denied that our frontline and essential workers are the people who are keeping Singapore alive and kicking!

Government’s Response

In response to media queries, a spokesperson from the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI) said the Virus Vanguard is now “undergoing a review”
