Singapore is one of the most technology-advanced countries, and that also means that Singapore won’t be far away from getting our hands on the world’s best technologies.
We can expect that from 2025 onwards, there will be 5G island-wide.
What does 5G network in Singapore mean?
Of course, that means a faster network in Singapore! So we can look forward to:
- Shorter lag times & crashes
- Faster downloads & uploads
- Little to no buffering on 4K videos
- Bandwidth for smart home devices
- Phones are viable Wi-Fi hotspots
The 3 main telcos in Singapore — Singtel $ JVCo (collaboration between M1 & Starhub) will oversee the 5G network coverage across Singapore.
They will start by focusing on:
- Network rollout
- Performance & coverage
- Cybersecurity & resilience
- Vendor diversity
Other network operators like CirclesLife will be offered “wholesale arrangements” with the main telcos to share 5G services with their users.
What does this mean for technology in Singapore?
We welcome 5G and will say goodbye to 3G. As 5G starts becoming the norm in Singapore, 3G will be slowly phased out.
This means that 1.81 million 3G users in Singapore will be affected. However, every cloud has a silver lining. It may be a little troublesome to change to 4G or 5G networks, but they will definitely enjoy the benefits.
Are you excited for 5G networks to start in Singapore? Cos I definitely am!!
