Singapore just moved into phase 2 of post Circuit Breaker a few days ago, and Malaysia ended their MCO not long ago too.
Both countries have successfully kept the COVID-19 situation under control, and are slowly considering opening up their borders. Singapore, for example, has opened up our borders to China.
Will Singapore and Malaysia open up borders to each other?
The Malaysian Government has announced that they are ready to open their borders to “green zone” countries. They include Singapore and Brunei.
Does that mean I can meet my Malaysian friends already?
Many of us have Malaysian colleagues who we miss… Are we finally able to meet them? Without the 14 day mandatory quarantine?
Yesss!! Malaysia has confirmed that Singaporeans can go over to Malaysia without the need to go through 14 days of quarantine. However, the same conditions must be applicable to Malaysians as well. All conditions should be mutual between both countries.
Is it confirmed? Can I go to Malaysia already?
Free and easy travel between both countries sounds exciting, but it’s still a one-sided proposition for now. Singapore has not confirmed anything as of writing. However, MFA is still in talks with Malaysia to come out with a plan that allows citizens from both countries to travel across the border.
An MFA spokesperson said “Such bilateral arrangements would have to include mutually agreed public health protocols in order to safeguard citizens of both countries”
I guess Singaporeans won’t be able to travel across for cheap shopping or a short getaway so early, but I can see hope!!
What about medical travel?
If you are planning to travel to Malaysia for medical treatments, you will be taken straight to the hospital. You may bring along a caretaker to accompany you. But Malaysia’s tracing app — MySejahtera app — must be downloaded.
