Singaporean man arrested in Brisbane for attempted murder

Brian Tan, a 31-year-old man was charged in Brisbane, Australia on Wednesday, 10 May 2017 for the attempted murder of a 20-year-old Hong Kong woman.

He was arrested at the crime scene at Norman Park, an apartment rented from Airbnb.

While the television news crew (7 News) was attempting to interview the host, they found him sitting calmly in the apartment.

He had met the woman several months ago and both parties were in a relationship.

She visited him at the apartment on Monday night where he allegedly assaulted her with a hammer and knife.

She sustained a fractured skull and several stab wounds in the upper body.

The host was alerted to the attack and rushed to her aid, forcing the accused to flee the crime scene.

A manhunt was conducted for 16 hours before the film crew discovered him back at the apartment on Tuesday. The police were alerted and managed to apprehend him without resistance.

The woman is in stable condition and recovering at Princess Alexandra Hospital.

The accused is due to face the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
