Living up to my childhood nickname of “Tam Jiak Kia” which meant “glutton”, I had to visit SOE TAM JIAK when I heard they had opened – even if I had to reluctantly admit I’m still a Tam Jiak Kia.
But this fish-shaped croissant taiyaki was so worth it. It was everything its name meant – “SOE“, “TAM” and “JIAK” which actually translates into 酥, 谈, 吃 which represents Crispy, Chat and Eat respectively.
A variation from the originally fluffy taiyaki, this croissant taiyaki is flaky and crunchy instead. With classics such as red bean and chocolate banana, to unique flavours like coconut gula melaka and garlic butter and even specialities like SOE TAM JIAK Breakfast and teriyaki chicken, it has truly got me hooked.

I could distinctly smell the caramelized pastry whilst it was sizzling on the pan. The staff was super generous with the fillings and the gula melaka oozed from the taiyaki when I took a bite. I highly recommend SOE TAM JIAK Breakfast as the combination of the egg mayo and ham with caramelized pastry was simply amazing!
The cheese taiyaki had some heat from the jalapeno but it truly brought out the flavours of the cheddar and mozzarella cheese! The chocolate banana is a dream come true for the glutton in me.
It is normally a breeze to pick out my favourite but it is impossible to do so here. Each flavour stood out in its own ways and you will have to try them all! SOE TAM JIAK is definitely an easy to grab-and-go snack that can suffice your hunger as you shop, I reckon this will be the next food trend!
