Girls’ Generation debuted back in 2007, under S.M. Entertainment. S.M. Entertainment is home to prominent K-pop artists such as EXO, Super Junior, SHINee and f(x). Back in 2007, there were 9 members consisting of Taeyeon, Yuri, Hyoyeon, Sunny, Yoona, Tiffany, Sooyoung, Seohyun and Jessica. Jessica, however, left the group in 2014. On October 9, 2017, Sooyoung, Tiffany, and Seohyun decided not to renew their contracts with SM Entertainment which resulted in rumors of the group disbanding. But as of 2018, Girl’s Generation members cleared the doubts by getting back together to greet their fans through social media.

They are actually the first Asian girl group to achieve five music videos of over 100 million views on YouTube. The five music videos are “Gee”, “I Got a Boy”, “The Boys”, “Mr. Taxi”, and “Oh!”.  They are also the first non-Japanese girl group to have three number-one albums on the Japanese Oricon Albums Chart.

Despite being around for almost 11 years, the popularity of the Girls’ Generation is still going very strong and is still a favorite in the K-pop industry.
