Just across the causeway lies Johor Bahru, the ultimate cafe-hopping destination. Home to plenty of hipster cafes, the cafe scene in Johor Bahru is nothing short of wonderful – with a wider selection of food options at lower prices, what more can one ask for?
Johor is a foodie paradise but with so many gorgeous cafes around, it gets pretty difficult to fit everything into one short day.
For all the avid cafe hoppers out there, these are the 7 cafes you need to check out.
1. Faculty Of Caffeine
A rustic-looking cafe located in JB’s “Little India,” Faculty Of Caffeine is one of the few cafes that open pretty early at 9 am.
That said, you can head down here early and start your day off with a cup of cappuccino and a breakfast set from their extensive menu.
Faculty Of Caffeine caters to all customers at any time of the day, with its’ wide range of desserts, mains and light bites to choose from.
This cafe serves up international cuisines ranging from authentic Malaysian dishes to Korean delicacies like their signature Korean Fried Chicken.
When you’re here, you must try out their signature waffles, undeniably one of the best in town!

2. Flowers in the Window
Located on the popular street of Jalan Dhoby, Flowers in the Window is just a short walk away from the border, making it an accessible location that is easy to find.
This wonderful garden-themed cafe offers a wide selection of food options like Asian-fusion mains, brunch, fresh sourdough, homemade cakes, as well as coffee and herb-infused teas!
As the name suggests, this spacious 2-storey cafe is nicely decorated with plants and flowers, creating an outdoor-like space. Surrounded by so much greenery, you will definitely feel uplifted and refreshed after your meal.
The food here is also served in generous portions at affordable prices so you most likely won’t break the bank here!
I highly recommend this as a must-try hangout if you’re in the area.
Oh and also, don’t forget to put on your best outfits because this cafe sure has many Instagrammable spots for you to snap away.

3. Coffee Signature
This is one of the coffee places that I will visit again in Johor Bahru.
One drink that most (if not all) customers will order is Sweet Rain. Sweet Rain is served with hot coffee or tea and a ball of cotton candy above it. The cotton candy is supposed to melt into the cup, but it didn’t go the way I expected it to be.
But on the overall, even if it doesn’t melt into the cup, the dried cotton candy at the side of the mug still taste as good.
Another reason why I like Coffee Signature so much is that it is easily accessible. Located just a short ten minutes away from KSL, the cafe is the perfect location for a good coffee break after a long day of shopping
53, Jalan Serampang, Taman Sri Tebrau Johor Bahru 80050,, Johor Malaysia.
Daily 12:00pm – 10:00pm
4. The Replacement Lodge & Kitchen
Along a stretch of shophouses lies The Replacement Lodge & Kitchen, a 2-in-1 hotel and cafe. Conveniently located in the centre of Johor Bahru, this aesthetic cafe can be reached via a short 10 minutes walk from the causeway.
The interior of the cafe is decorated with white marble tiles, creating a minimalistic and stylish space with a cosy feel to it.
Apart from the Instagram worthy setting of this quaint cafe, the food served here is also top-notch and are sold at reasonable prices.
The food looks so appealing, doesn’t it? Wait, there’s more for you to feast your eyes on!
The churros here are to die for, you have to try it. I mean, it is the cafe’s speciality item after all so do give it a try even if you’re not a fan of churros! You can thank me later.

5. Shakespeare Milkshakes
Craving for something sweet? We know just the place for you!
Located just around the corner from The Replacement, you can make a quick stop at this charming, fairytale-like cafe for a sweet treat. Shakespeare Milkshakes serve a wide variety of sweet treats ranging from speciality milkshakes to their signature soft serve ice cream and on-the-go treats.
Known for their renowned speciality milkshakes, I would say my favourite drink is their signature Kinder Bueno Milkshake.
The savoury croffles (croissant pressed between waffle iron) makes for a good pairing with their milkshakes, the perfect combo!
There are also board games available on level 2 which makes it perfect for catching up with your friends while indulging in the sweet treats that you’ve bought.
Come on, I know you’re tempted to try this out. A little sweetness won’t hurt, right?
Fun Fact: This cafe is opened by the same people behind The Replacement Lodge & Kitchen and Faculty Of Caffeine!
